Diagnosis:
Vesicle organisation/tabulation of dinoflagellate amphiesma cop, pop, cap, 3`, 2a, 6``, 7c, 6```, 2````, as, FM, ls, rs, ps; 1` exsert with adelopore on suture 1`/6``; 1a and 2a pentagonal. Growth of thecal plates ?Gonyaulacoid. Zygote cyst proximate, proximochorate, chorate, acavate, cavate, ovoidal to elongate, ovaloidal, ellipsoidal, polyhedrical, including apical horn. Wall smooth, ornamented, paratabulation may be expressed by finate or limbate ornaments.

Affinities:
Arkellea differs from Paragonyaulacysta in the shape of 1a and 2a (pentagonal) and their different relation to 3`` and 4``. Arkellea differs from Gochteodinia in showing paratabulation.
