Bourkidinium

From Williams et al., 2017:

[Bourkidinium, Morgan, 1975, p. 160; Emendations: Nøhr-Hansen, 1993, p. 47-48

Type species: Bourkidinium granulatum, Morgan, 1975 (pl.2,figs.2a–c)]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original description: [Morgan, 1975]:

Diagnosis:
Cysts are chorate, elongate ellipsoidal, and bear long, hollow, tubular processes which are restricted to the apex and antapex (probably associated with only the apical and antapical series of reflected plates). The low relief surface ornament shows no evidence of a cingulum or tabulation. The archeopyle is apical, type A.

Modified description:

Stover and Evitt, 1978, p. 23:

Synopsis:
Cysts elongate ellipsoidal, body with long, hollow, tubular processes confined to apex and antapex; archaeopyle apical, Type "tA".

Description:
Shape: Elongate ellipsoidal.
Wall relationships: Autophragm only.
Wall features: No parasutural features. Processes present only at apical and antapical ends; processes long, tubular. Autophragm with features of low relief between processes.
Paratabulation: Indicated by archaeopyle only.
Archaeopyle: Apical, Type "tA".
Paracingulum: Not expressed.
Parasulcus: Not expressed.
Size: Intermediate to large.

Affinities:
Bourkidinium differs from Comparodinium in having relatively few processes, which are confined to polar areas, whereas in Comparodinium the processes are more numerous and absent only in the paracingular area.Davey & Williams, 1966b by having processes present only at the apex and antapex.

Emended description:

Nohr-Hansen, 1993

Diagnosis:
Chorate cysts with an elongate, ellipsoidal main body that bears long, hollow, tubular processes which are restricted to the apex (reflecting apical, or apical and precingular plate-series) and antapex (reflecting antapical, or maybe antapical, postcingular and sulcal plate-series). The equatorial zone is wide and devoid of processes. The low relief surface ornament shows no evidence of a cingulum or tabulation. The archeopyle is apical (type tA).
