Stover and Williams, 1987, p. 45:

Affinities:
Illustrations of Mendicodinium caperatum Brideaux 1977 (pl. 7, figs. 7-11 the species designated by Norris (1978, p. 12) as the type species of Breedoxella show a specimen in which the epicyst is separated from the rest of the cyst and other specimens in which the epicysts are attached. Evidently, the only distinction between Mendicodinium Morgenroth 1970 and Breedoxella is that the operculum is attached in the former genus and free in the latter. In view of the thinness of the autophragm and the narrowness of the parasulcal isthmus, specimens are probably susceptible to separation, either naturally or otherwise. Unless quantitative studies present evidence to the contrary, we prefer to regard Breedoxella as a junior synonym of Mendicodinium.
