Deflagymnium

From Williams et al., 2017:

[Deflagymnium, Olaru, 1978a, p. 86. Olaru (1978b, p.38) also cited this genus as new

Type species: Deflagymnium elongatum, Olaru, 1978a (pl.8, fig.8)]

Original description: [Olaru, 1978]: (Translation: Fensome et al., 1991, p. 155):

Diagnosis:
The genus Deflagymnium has the general shape of the genus Deflandrea with one apical horn and two antapical horns. It has the same kind of narrow, longitudinal folds as Gymnodinium, which are characteristic of that genus.

Description:
Shape elongate with a sharply delimited equatorial cingulum which divides the body into two zones, an upper epithecal part and a lower hypothecal part. The epitheca is terminated by a pointed apical horn, whose sides form a 35¦ angle. The hypotheca ends in two antapical horns whose inner margins make an 85¦ angle. The surface is finely granular, longitudinally plicate with narrow folds and the equatorial, cingular zone is also delimited by transverse plicae. No central body is present.

Stover and Williams, 1987, p. 73:

Affinities:
Dinoflagellates similar in general appearance to Deflagymnium and from strata of comparable age have been assigned to Phelodinium Stover and Evitt 1978. The latter genus, however, is cavate and has a simple intercalary archeopyle, whereas the former genus is acavate (autophragm only) and its description contains no mention of an archeopyle. Evidently Deflagymnium is based on a single specimen and until more is known about the genus we recommend restricting the name to the type specimen.
