Description:
Cysts 4 to 6-sided in outline, endocyst enclosed by a periphragm which is 3 µm to 4 µm wide, paracingulum discernible, a weakly developed apical horn is present.

Remarks:
The description of this monotypic genus, together with the illustration of the holotype (Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980, pl. 2, fig. 1), lead us to believe that Hashenia and Canningia are congeneric. According to Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980, the range of Hashenia is Late Cretaceous (Turonian to Maastrichtian). Therefore, recognition of Hashenia as a junior synonym of Canningia extends the Last Appearance Datum of the latter genus from the base of the Campanian into the Maastrichtian.
