Paucisphaeridium

From Williams et al., 2017:

[Paucisphaeridium, Bujak, 1980, p. 30, 32

Type species: originally as Litosphaeridium? inversibuccinum, Davey and Williams, 1966b (pl.12, fig.3)] ; Paucisphaeridium inversibuccium, Bujak, 1980

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original description: [Bujak, 1980]:

Description:
Chorate cysts with a spherical to subspherical central body. The processes are proximally expanded, hollow, and constricted near the distal end.
Process formula ?4`, 6", 0c, 6```, 0````, xs. When present, the sulcal processes are slender. Archaeopyle apical, presumably tetratabular. Operculum not observed.

Modified description:

Stover and Williams, 1987, p. 173:

Synopsis:
Cysts skolochorate, body subspherical, but shape modified by confluence of proximally expanded intratabular processes, which are also constricted near their distal ends; paratabulation indicated by processes; cingular, antapical and possibly apical processes absent; archeopyle apical, type uncertain; operculum free.

Description:
Shape: Body subspherical, but shape modified by merging of body with expanded? process bases.
Wall relationships: Undifferentiated autophragm.
Wall features: No parasutural features. Hollow intratabular processes greatly expanded proximally, less so distally.
Archeopyle: Apical, type uncertain; operculum free, but unobserved.
Paratabulation: Indicated by intratabular processes; process formula: ?`, 6", Oc, 6```, O```` and Xs.
Paracingulum: Indicated by lack of processes between the precingular and postcingular series.
Parasulcus: Not indicated, or expressed by slender processes; number of processes not stated.
Size: Intermediate; overall size about 55 µm in diameter.

Affinities:
The shape of the processes on Paucisphaeridium serves to distinguish this genus from Litosphaeridium Davey and Williams in Davey et al. 1966 emended Lucas-Clark 1984, which has subcylindrical to dome-shaped to conical processes.
