Productodinium

From Williams et al., 2017:

[Productodinium, Davey, 1988, p. 43-44

Type species: Productodinium chenii, Davey, 1988 (pl.8, fig.6)]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original description: [Davey, 1988]:

Diagnosis:
Shape: The body is elongate to ovoidal.
Wall: Apparently two layered with the outer layer developed into various low features such as granules, tubercles, bacules and low spines.
Paratabulation: A poorly defined cingulum may be present. Some of the wall features may be aligned along the axis of the cyst and are probably sutural.
Archaeopyle: An apical archaeopyle is developed by the detachment of the apical plates as a unit (Type tA). The archaeopyle has a strongly zigzag margin.
Size: Moderate.

Affinities:
The combination of elongate shape, apical archaeopyle, low ornamentation and, typically, some signs of a tabulation differentiates Productodinium from previously described genera. Prolixosphaeridium Davey and Williams 1966 is most similar, but differs principally in not having any signs of a tabulation except for the shape of the archaeopyle.
By inference, Davey 1979 altered the concept of Egmontodinium Gitmez and Sarjeant 1972 when he re-attributed the spinose form E. torynum (Cookson and Eisenack 1960) to this genus. The latter is [...] considered to belong to the E. polyplacophorum Gitmez and Sarjeant 1972 - E. expiratum Davey 1982 lineage. However, longer spined forms that are correctly placed in Productodinium link this genus to E. torynum and hence E. polyplacophorum.
