Reticulatosphaera

From Williams et al., 2017:

[Reticulatosphaera, Matsuoka, 1983b, p. 116; Emendation: Bujak and Matsuoka, 1986, p. 238;

Type species: originally as Reticulatosphaera stellata, Matsuoka, 1983b (pl.4, fig.8)] ; Reticulatosphaera actinocoronata, (Benedek, 1972), Bujak and Matsuoka, 1986

Original description: [Matsuoka, 1983]:

Diagnosis:
Cyst chorate and subspherical to ellipsoidal. Processes solid, furcate and intratabular. Distal parts of processes ramifying two or three times and forming a rough network with connection to adjacent extremities. The number of processes relatively constant, about twenty-six. Both paracingulum and parasulcus not reflected by any feature.
Archaeopyle a simple precingular. Operculum basically detached.

Emended description:

Bujak and Matsuoka, 1986:

Diagnosis:
Cysts chorate and subspherical to ellipsoidal. Processes solid, furcate and intratabular. Distal extremities branching two or three times and forming an irregular network often with connection to adjacent extremities. Paratabulation gonyaulacacean, represented by the processes and archaeopyle, probably 4`, 6``, 0c, 6```, 1````, 1p, 2-3s. Paracingulum lacking processes. Archaeopyle simple precingular; operculum free.

Modified description:

Stover and Williams, 1987, p. 183

Synopsis:
Cysts skolochorate, body subspherical to ellipsoidal; processes intratabular, mostly solid, branched and connected distally by a trabecular ectophragmal network; paratabulation probably gonyaulacacean but not known completely; archaeopyle precingular type P.

Description:
Shape: Endocyst subspherical to ellipsoidal; outline of ectophragm subcircular.
Wall relationships: Endophragm and periphragm evidently closely appressed except where processes are formed; processes support an ectophragmal trabecular network with an irregularly-sized mesh.
Wall features: Processes intratabular, about 26 (not more than 30), mostly solid and distally branched, trifurcate to twig-like.
Archaeopyle: Precingular type P (3` only); operculum probably free.
Paratabulation: May be 4`, 6``, 0c on epicyst, and undetermined for rest of cyst.
Paracingulum: Not indicated.
Parasulcus: Not indicated.
Size: Small to intermediate, about 45 to 70 µm in diameter.

Affinities:
Reticulatosphaera differs from Nematosphaeropsis Deflandre and Cookson, 1955; emend. Williams and Downie in Davey et al., 1966 in having intratabular rather than principally gonal processes. Eatonicysta Stover and Evitt, 1978, which has solid, intratabular processes and a reticulate ectophragm, differs from Reticulatosphaera in possessing an apical archaeopyle.

Reticulatosphaera Matsuoka, 1983b, emend. Bujak and Matsuoka, 1986. Bujak and Matsuoka (1986, p.238) provided the following emendation. Cysts chorate and subspherical to ellipsoidal. Processes solid, furcate and intratabular. Distal extremities branching two or three times and forming an irregular network often with connection to adjacent extremities. Paratabulation gonyaulacacean, represented by the processes and archeopyle, probably 4`, 6", 0c, 6``` , 1```` , 1p, 2-3s. Paracingulum lacking processes. Archeopyle simple precingular, operculum free.
