Dinoflagellate cysts from the Bathonian - Tithonian (Jurassic) of North Bulgaria. II. Taxonomy of Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian dinoflagellate cysts

Dodekova, L., 1992: Dinoflagellate cysts from the Bathonian - Tithonian (Jurassic) of North Bulgaria. II. Taxonomy of Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian dinoflagellate cysts. Geologica Balcanica, 22, 3, pp. 33-69 Abstract: The dinocysts in the Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian sedimentary rocks in 39 boreholes have been studied. Their taxonomy and stratigraphic range are object of this paper. The 72 species belonging to 39 genera are considered. They are divided into 4 groups according to the archeopyle type. Especially important for this chronostratigraphic interval are the species of the following genera: Acanthaulax, Amphorula, Atlantodinium, Dinopterigium, Dissiliodinium, Epiplosphaera, Hystrichosphaerina, Leptodinium, Meristaulax, Scriniodinium, Systmatophora, Taeniophora and Xenicodinium. Some species of these genera are particularly numerous in the Mediterranean Province. These species are: Atlantodinium jurassicum, Epiplosphaera areolata, E. bireticulata, E. reticulospinosa, Histiophora ornata, Meristaulax granulata, Taeniophora filamentosa, T. iunctispina, Xenicodinium densibarbatum. The following new and potential new species are described: Aldorfia sp., Hystrichosphaerina crusta sp. n., Hystrichosphaerina? sp. aff. H. sarjeantii, Kalyptea sp. aff. K. para, Scriniodinium sp. aff. S. luridum, Tehamadinium konarae sp. n., Tehamadinium sp. aff. T. konarae, Stephanelytron sp. aff. S. redcliffense. Two new combinations are proposed: Lithodinia bejui comb. n. and Polygonifera bavarica comb. n. The stratigraphic distribution of the recorded species is given.
