Strauss, C. and Lund, J.J., 1992; A Middle Miocene dinoflagellate cyst microflora from Papendorf near Hamburg, Germany. Mitt. Geol.-Palõont. Inst. univ. Hamburg, Heft 73: 159-189. Summary A hitherto undated dark grey Tertiary ice-dislocated clay from Papendorf near Hamburg contains a rich dinoflagellate cyst microflora which in indicative of a Middle Miocene, early-middle Langenfeldian age. This age assignment demonstrates that the clay was dislocated from the highest part of the Tertiary section as penetrated in the nearby Braak well. The dinoflagellate cyst microflora is described in detail. Five new combinations are proposed and the new species Filisphaera minuta, Operculodinium piaseckii, Pentadinium spinulum and Spiniferites gracilimembranaceus, as well as the new variety Labyrinthodinium truncatum var. reductum are formally established. In addition seven species described in a yet unpublished Ph.D. thesis from eastern Germany are noted in informal nomenclature.
