Mesozoic and Cenozoic dinoflagellates

Williams, G.L. and Bujak, J.P. (1985); Mesozoic and Cenozoic dinoflagellates. In: Bolli, H.M., Saunders, J.B. and Perch-Nielsen, K. (eds.). Plankton Stratigraphy. pp. 846-964, figs. (and plates) 1-43. Abstract (annotated, from the introduction): The paper summarizes and groups all dinoflagellate zonations published to date (1985). Grouped into three sections (Late Triassic-Jurassic, Cretaceous and Cenozoic), they are plotted against the absolute time-scales of Van Hinte (1976) for the Jurassic and Cretaceous and of Hardenbol and Berggren (1979) and of Vail et al. (1977) for the Cenozoic. The Cenozoic chart also shows calcareous nannofossil and planktic foraminiferal zonations. A range chart for the Late Triassic-Pleistocene gives the known ranges of some 385 dinocyst species. All 385 species are depicted. A separate range chart is given for the Tethyan Early Cretaceous.
