Eaton, G.L., 1971; A morphogenetic series of dinoflagellate cysts from the Bracklesham Beds of the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England. in: Farinacci (ed.), Proc. Sec. Plankt. Conf. Rome vol.1 pp. 355-379 pl.4 Abstract Four species of dinoflagellate cysts are described from the Bracklesham beds (Eocene) of the Isle of Wight, England. The new genus Areosphaeridium n. gen. is proposed (type species Hystrichosphaeridium diktyoplokus klumpp, 1953). Consideration of the morphology, reflected tabulation and stratigraphical range of Membranilarnacia ursulae (Morgenroth) Gocht, 1969, and the four describeed species: Areosphaeridium diktyoplokus Klumpp, 1953 n. comb., emend., A. arcuatum n. sp., a. multicornutum n. sp. and Cyclonephelium intricatum n. sp., indicates that these five species constitute a morphogenetic series of dinoflagellate cysts in the Bracklesham Beds. The relationship between the corresponding thecate dinoflagellates is discussed and compared with modern dinoflagellate cyst-theca relationships.
