An investigation of microplankton assemblages from the Chalk of the Isle of Wight, England

Clarke, R.F.A. and Verdier, J.P., 1967; An investigation of micropankton assemblages from the Chalk of the Isle of Wight, England. Verhandelingen der Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen Afd. Natuurkunde, Deel XXIV, No.3. Annotated abstract: mikroplankton assemblages are recorded and described from chalk surface samples of Cenomanian to Senonian age from the Isle of Wight, England. The samples have been collected from two sections which are well-dated upon independent palaeontological evidence. Recorded microplankton species have been tabulated quantitatively in the form of a distribution chart for the combined sections. Data from this chart have been used to compile a range chart incorporating a proposed microplankton subdivision for this Cenomanian to Senonian interval. This subdivision is expressed in two ways; one giving five zones and five sub-zones based on conventional stratigraphical methods, the other comprising seven "intervals" using "top occurrences" (extinction points) of certain species. Presented data are substantiated by work undertaken at B.I.P.M. on the Upper Cretaceous of France.
