Dinocyst assemblages in the phosphatic Maastrichtian- Paleocene of Morocco

Soncini, M.J. and Rauscher, R., 1988; Dinocyst assemblages in the phosphatic Maastrichtian-Paleocene of Morocco. Bull. C.R.E.P. Elf-Aquitaine vol.12, no.1 pp.427-450 pl.4 (in French) Palynological analysis of the 30 uppermost samples of borehole SB 19 in Morocco phosphates allowed the differenciation of four dinocyst assemblages of Maastrichtian to Danian-Thanetian Both the 1 st and 2nd assemblages show a strong predominance of Peridinioids as Tnthyrodinium, Alterbidinium, Spinidinium, Isabelidinium, Andalusiella and Palaeocystodinium, abundant and varied The third one is characterized by a high frequency of Gonyaulacoids, also very varied: Areollgera and Glaphyrocysta, Cribroperidinium and Apteodinium. Microdinlum, Escharlsphaeridla and Elytrocysta Additional Peridinioids are Ceratiopsls and Deflandrea Successive diagnostic species are found here together and suggest an important reworking of Late Maastrichtian to Thanetian sediments The last assemblage, with Manumiella druggil. Ceratiopsis speciosa and Elytrocysta druggii. is also older than Upper Thanetian Trithyrodinium robustum and Plculacysta sp are described and their taxonomical position discussed.
