The Wetzeliellacaea; Palaeogene dinoflagellates

Costa, L.I. and Downie, C., 1979; The Wetzeliellacaea; Palaeogene dinoflagellates. Proceedings IV INternational Palynology conference, Lucknow (1976-77), v.2: 34-46. Abstract The results of a morphological and biometric study of the family Wetzeliellaceae show that it should include only the genera Wetzeliella, Apectodinium stat. nov., Dracodinium, Kisselevia, Rhombodinium and Wilsonidium. Fortythree species and three subspecies are plced in relationship to each other. 10 species are rejected or placed in synonymy and 21 new combinations are made. It is largely a natural family, all the included genera being related, with the possible exception of Wilsonidium. The evolution and stratigraphic history of the family is illustrated confirming it to be a valuable group in the biostratigraphy of the Palaeogene.
