Preliminary results of palynological investigations in the Cretaceous of Colombia, South America

Pr÷ssl, K.F., 1992; Preliminary results of palynological investigations in the Cretaceous of Colombia, South America. Rev. Palaeobot. Palynol., 71: 255 268 Abstract Several profile sections from the Lower and Upper Cretaceous of the Cordillera Oriental in Colombia were investigated. In almost all samples from the Cundinamarca Basin the palynomorphs were destroyed or carbonized by thermal influence. Only one outcrop in the Magdalena Superior contained a poor palynofiora in some samples. The palynofacies shows lower offshore stagnant bottom conditions with high activity of sulfate-reducing bacteria. From this prolile the taxa Coronifera kirae sp. nov. and Ocalasphaera blindii gen. et sp. nov. are described.
